Theresa Keene, Principal Keyboards

Theresa Keene, Native Sacramentan, is in her  10th year as principal keyboardist for the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra. Miss Keene has bachelor and master degrees in music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and doctoral studies at the Eastman School of Music in New York. Miss Keene has been priviledged to study with Adolph Baller, pianist for Yehudi Menuhin, and Mack McCray whose pedagogical lineage dates back to Franz Liszt. Miss Keene is an extraordinary concert pianist, having performed electrifying concerts in solo recital and with orchestra in Vienna, Switzerland, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. She began lessons at age seven; appeared on television at age eight and debuted with the Sacramento Symphony at age twelve under conductor Fritz Berens. Additionally, Miss Keene maintains her independent studio teaching all levels, beginners to advanced, ages four through ninety. Recently Miss Keene received a standing ovation to a sold out crowd for her collaborative performance of the Triple Concerto with the Philharmonic in the all Beethoven January concert. Because of this triumph Inside Publications of East Sacramento chose Miss Keene to be interviewed for their Artist Profile. Miss Keene has annually produced Black History Month Lecture/Concerts featuring music of Black classical composers as well as collaborating with exceptional local talent. This year some of the artists she is proud to present are soprano Leslie Sandefur, violinist Chase Spruill IV and actor, dancer and theatre professor Sam Williams. The concert is scheduled for February 22, 2008 at Sierra College and February 24, 2008 at Sacramento State University. Currently, Miss Keene is professor of music at American River College and Sierra College. She is a proud member of the St. Paul Baptist Church for fifteen years, Dr. Ephriam Williams, Pastor. Miss Keene says, "If it had not been for God's Grace and Mercy and the extreme sacrifices made by my parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard and Frances Keene, I would not be the woman or pianist I am today."  Theresa Keene
