String Fever
Musicians from the Sacramento Philharmonic are ready to teach at your school!
violin class
String Fever consists of small group beginning string lessons taught by Philharmonic musicians. One of the Philharmonic's educational missions is to start and help establish group string programs in Sacramento schools. The group string program relies on several factors, including school and community support. The instruments are repaired and maintained through a highly supportive relationship with the Sacramento Philharmonic League. The school support is typically in the form of a PTA, arts booster club, or some other student and parent organization. The Sacramento Philharmonic subsidizes the cost to bring in a Philharmonic musician to teach at the school.
Most schools hold a single 50 minute class once a week for 16 weeks beginning in September. Complimentary and discounted tickets to Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra concerts are also provided for the students. Schools are asked to provide other funds needed for the program in addition to minor administrative support and a teaching facility. The cost breakdown is $12.00 per child, per class. This program is available to any interested public or private school. To date, seven schools have opened programs serving over 100 students.
