Philharmonic Brass

The Philharmonic Brass, comprised of members of the Sacramento Philharmonic brass section, performs education programs for school and concert venues. The programs are designed to demonstrate the depth and range of this powerful orchestra section while teaching and inspiring young people in music arts.

The brass quintet consists of two trumpets, French horn, trombone, and tuba. The school concerts introduce the brass family to young ears, demonstrate how the sounds are made on a brass instrument, and show the tonal range and unique aspects of each individual instrument. We teach the fundamentals of music making (rhythm, pitch, dynamics and color) and perform examples of each type. The program explores music styles through several centuries, helping the audience feel the impact and depth of a brass ensemble through history and into the present.
Audiences, especially children, respond to the power and energy expressed through brass instruments. We build on people's natural love and recognition of instruments like the trumpet and then show them the strength and variety that encompasses the brass section.
