Wolf-Gang!

Wolf-Gang!, comprised of members of the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, is based on the standard woodwind quintet instrumentation, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn, representing the woodwind family of the orchestra. But Wolf-Gang offers much more in their programs than is to be expected. As the group's name implies, all types of "Wolves" abound throughout their programing, including the kinds with four legs and  "BIG TEETH" to the two legged,  child prodigy composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Motzart.
Wolf-Gang! performs programs for schools and concert venues throughout the Sacramento area and is widely appreciated for its special presentations of the following timeless children’s tales:
Peter and the Wolf
Carnival of the Animals
Little Red Ridding Hood

The music to all of these children’s tales and more, is specially arranged and composed for Wolf-Gang! by the Oboist, Curtis Kidwell. The poetry text, for the “Carnival of the Animals” and “Little Red Ridding Hood” is written and spoken by the Flutist, Elizabeth Coronata, keeping Ogden Nash’s original text “collecting dust on the bookshelf”. And the characters are brought to life by the captivating narration of Julian Dixon, the Principal Tuba of the orchestra. With his presence, don’t be surprised to hear tuba playing amongst the woodwind ensemble. As you can see our musicians bring multiple talents to each presentation.
The success of the Wolf-Gang! programming is attributable to its many strengths. Wolf-Gang! offers engaging demonstrations of the different woodwind instruments making learning fun. The arrangements of the musical tales maintain the integrity of their original orchestrations, enabling the tradition of sharing a favorite childhood story between generations. The poetry and text are exquisitely written to relate directly to the students. Student participation is incorporated into the programs through the aid of a student volunteer who helps display the descriptive artwork contributed by area elementary school students, and lastly, programs  often close  with audience participation in a crowd favorite selection.
After each performance each young child leaves exhilarated and beaming with inspiration.
