Greg Wellman joined the Sacramento Philharmonic in 2008. Prior to employment at the Philharmonic, Mr. Wellman worked for Wells Fargo Bank as a member of their Historical Services Department, a branch of the bank's Enterprise Marketing Division. At Wells Fargo, Mr. Wellman worked as a Historian and Museum Curator. Regularly, he wrote for their “Guided by History” BLOG. His writing concerned a number of topics pertaining to the bank's history. As a curator he worked to design and implement various exhibits for the companies Old Sacramento History Museum.
Mr. Wellman is also the Author of A History of Alcatraz Island 1853 – 2008 published by Arcadia Publishing as part of their “Images of America” series. He is currently working on his second book, California State University, Sacramento, which covers the development of the CSU system and CSUS . Academically, Mr. Wellman works part-time for California State University, Sacramento’s History Department as a graduate assistant. His studies include museum / non-profit operations and the development of modern western capitalism.
Mr. Wellman has also been a guest speaker at the California Historical Society, Capitol Public Radio’s Insight with Jeffery Callison and San Francisco’s Green 960AM. When not at the Philharmonic Mr. Wellman plays bass guitar for the band Splitzville. He holds an Associate of Arts Degree in History, Social Science and General Education from Yuba Community College, A Bachelors Degree in History for California State University, Sacramento and is currently finalizing his thesis for his Master of Arts in Public History from the same institution.
