Amy Stubbs, Principal Percussion


Amy Stubbs is currently Principal Percussionist with the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, a position she has held since 1998, and Principal Timpanist with the Napa Valley Symphony since 1997.  She earned her Master of Music from Carnegie Mellon University and her Bachelor of Music from the Manhattan School of Music, having studied with Timothy Adams and Duncan Patton.  In addition, she has studied with Cloyd Duff, Richard Holmes, and Thomas Stubbs.

Her performance credits include substitute percussion with the San Francisco Symphony and USAF Heritage of America Band, and Principal Timpanist with the Sunflower Music Festival.  Other orchestras include the Santa Rosa Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Women’s Philharmonic, and Pittsburgh Live MUSIC.

Ms. Stubbs' soloist appearances include the New Century Chamber Orchestra and the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony. She has appeared as a guest artist with Bay Brass and the Empyrean Ensemble. Additionally, she made several recordings, and has performed with such groups and touring organizations as the Moody Blues, Ray Charles and Luciano Pavarotti. 

She has taught at the University of California Davis, mentored for the Oakland East Bay Symphony MUSE program, and coached the Oakland Youth Orchestra, in addition to maintaining a private teaching studio since 1995.  

Professional memberships include the American Federation of Musicians and the Percussive Arts Society.  In addition to her many performance activities, Ms. Stubbs is the owner of a small business, A. Stubbs Percussion.  Web address:  www.stubbspercussion.com
